Invest in Mauritius

Mauritius has opened its doors to the world. The country wants to attract foreign investors and professionals to contribute to its Vision 2030, that is, becoming a high-income nation. Business opportunities abound in existing sectors, new sectors and new segments of existing sectors.

The local business climate is very investor-friendly and foreigners can easily obtain a residence permit. Acquisition of residential and business property is also much easier than before. Foreign nationals are free to invest in a wide range of activities and obtain an ‘Occupation Permit’ as Investor. An Occupation Permit is a combined work and residence permit and the holder’s dependents are eligible for a residence permit. Mauritius is a free economy. Corporate tax is only 15% for domestic activities and 3% for export-oriented activities and there is no Capital Gains Tax, no Inheritance Tax, no foreign exchange control and no prohibition on 100% repatriation of capital profits. Foreigners can hold 100% shareholding in a company. There is no need to be a resident to own a company.

Work in Mauritius

Foreign nationals can take up employment in Mauritius under either a Work Permit or an Occupation Permit. A work permit applies when the foreigner’s salary is less than 60,000. An Occupation Permit is a combined work and residence permit issued to foreigners earning a salary above Rs 60,000.

Retire in Mauritius

Foreign nationals over 50 can opt for a Residence Permit as Retired Non-citizen if they are able to bring into Mauritius at least 18,000 USD annually as their living expenses. They can also acquire an apartment or lease rooms in senior living residences and qualify for permanent residence.

Acquire Property in Mauritius

Buying property is Mauritius has never been so easy. Apart from designated property schemes where foreign nationals can buy a residential property and obtain a permanent residence, foreign nationals can also buy an apartment anywhere in Mauritius in residential projects with a minimum of three levels. The popular schemes are: Real Estate Scheme, Property Development Scheme or Integrated Resorts Scheme, whereby a foreign national can buy a luxurious villa or apartment. If the price paid exceeds 375,000 USD or equivalent, then the buyer obtains permanent residency.

Foreign nationals can also purchase business property (land, office, building, etc) for selected business activities. Foreign investors can also set up their own mixed use residential projects, business parks, industrial zones or any other similar development.

Under the Invest Hotel Scheme, foreign nationals can acquire hotel rooms/units and lease back to the hotel to generate yearly income. They can however enjoy their properties by occupying them for a maximum of 45 days in any period of 12 months.
